by Tracy Behrns

January 07, 2008

The Lady Scouts faced two difficult and talented opponents this last weekend.  Friday, January 4, the Lady Scouts traveled to Genoa to take on the Lady Titans (5-2) and fell short 49 to 28.  In their six prior games the Lady Scouts struggled in the second half to hold on after half time, but this time it was the first half that caused problems for the team.  The score was 22 to 6 at half time and almost equal scoring in the second half.  Leading scorers for the Lady Scouts were Hannah B. with 17 and Morgan O. with 5.  Leading the way in rebounds was Hannah B. with 8, Morgan O. with 5, and Rebecca H. with 4.  Overall the team went 9 of 23 from the floor for 39%, 10 of 26 from the free throw line for 38.5%, tallied 14 steals, blocked 5 shots, and accumulated 32 turnovers.

The next evening didn’t get any easier.  The Lady Eagles of Milford (6-2) came to David City.  The Lady Eagles have an all around good team this year, getting scoring from multiple areas and multiple people.  The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Scouts 35 to 51.  The Lady Scouts fell behind in the first half 15 to 29, but fought hard in the second half only being outscored by two points.  Leading the way was Hannah B. with 13 points and Megan R. with 8 points.  Rebounding came from the junior trio of Morgan O. with 8, Hannah B. with 7, and Miranda F. with 4.  The Lady Scouts were 12 of 36 from two-point range for 33.3% and 2 of 5 from three-point range for 40% for an overall 34% from the floor.  They were 5 of 14 from the free throw line for 35.7%. The Lady Scouts out rebounded a solid Milford team 24 to 16.  The girls tallied 10 assists, 11 steals, 5 blocks, and unfortunately 33 turnovers on the evening.

The Lady Scouts will be busy this week with Tri County on Tuesday, January 8, Cross County on Friday, January 11, and Malcolm on Saturday, January 12.  All games will be played in David City.
