Close First Half, Disappointing Second for Lady Scouts

by Tracy Behrns

January 03, 2008

December 14 brought the Lady Tigers of East Butler to the home of the Lady Scouts.  The first half of the ball game was a good showing for the Lady Scouts who went into the locker room down by just 6 points.  This was quite an improvement over the last few years.  The second half of the ball game did not go quite as the Lady Scouts would have hoped.  The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Scouts 32 to 15.  The 1-3-1 half court trap became fatal for the Lady Scouts who turned the ball over 33 times.  Prior to this game, the Lady Scouts were averaging 13 turnovers a game and were able to reach the 40’s for scoring.  The Lady Scouts fell to the Lady Tigers after a well played first half, 34 to 57.  David City was led by Hannah B. with 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Morgan O. and Rebecca H. chipped in 8 and 7 points on the night.  Morgan O. and Megan R. pulled down an additional 5 rebounds apiece and Rebecca H. added 4.  The team shot 13 of 32 from the floor for 40.6% and 8 of 20 from the free throw line for 40%.  The Lady Scouts pulled down 27 boards, had 7 assists, 8 steals, and 5 blocked shots.

The Lady Scouts traveled the following day to Lakeview to take on the Lady Viqueens.  A similar scenario began to emerge.  The Lady Scouts did not play up to their potential in the first half of the ball game, but went into the locker room down by only 10 points.  However, after half time, the Lady Scouts could not rally and were outscored 29 to 14.  The Lady Viqueens walked away with a 49 to 24 victory.  The Lady Scouts were led by Hannah B. with 7 points, Nikki R. with 6, and Megan R. with 5.  Hannah B. pulled down a game high 10 rebounds for the Scouts while Morgan O. and Rebecca H. added 3 apiece.  The team finished with 10 of 28 shooting from the floor for 35.7% and 3 of 9 from the free throw line for 33.3%.  Turnovers in the second half reduced the effectiveness of the Lady Scouts offensive production and offset the positive actions of their 9 assists and 9 steals.
