Family Internet Safety
Students in the elementary are taught to use the Internet as a research tool; their access to the Internet is generally limited to web sites or online databases that teachers tell them to use. Additionally, filtering is mandatory in schools so that the risk of accessing inappropriate material is significantly reduced. (Please see the student handbook for a complete description.) Internet safety for children is a major concern once students have full Internet access such as that which they might have at home or at friends’ homes. To get some useful information about how to protect your children and your family on the Internet, go to http://www.getnetwise.org The first section has the following contents:
- Learn about the risks kids face online
- Search or browse for Internet safety products, browse great sites families can visit together, and
- Learn how to identify online trouble and get law enforcement contact information.
Other sections include information about stopping spam and other unwanted email, protecting your privacy online, and ways to reduce the risks from viruses and hacking.
