Preschool

By Miss Julie

September 19, 2008

It has been a great start to our preschool year!  We have 20 friends in our morning class and 16 friends in our afternoon class.

We have been busy getting to know each other and have been learning our preschool routine.

We spent some time learning about shapes and colors.  Preschoolers had a good time searching our preschool room for different shapes and then went home and brought in shapes they could find at their homes.  We had things like Kleenex boxes, picture frames, star stickers, muffin liners, and a variety of other fun items brought in from home.  We got into small groups and used puff balls, buttons, and other small manipulatives to make huge shapes as a team.  We also created shapes posters to take home where we used glitter, sparkles, stickers, foam pieces, and sponge-paint to create shapes.

While we were talking about colors, we read many fun books about colors.  After we read the book, “White Rabbit’s Color Book” Mrs. Julie showed the preschoolers some magic as she took whipped cream and added “magic goo” to the whipped cream to show how different colors can be made by using the primary colors.  We also made awesome pictures by coloring a sheet of white construction paper and then painting over it with black paint.  We then took popsicle sticks and scratched designs all over the wet black paint.  This made the colors underneath show through and was a huge hit.

We talked about Bears and read lots of fun bear books.  We made several bear art projects.  One where we ripped up pieces of brown paper and glued them to a bear cutout and another project where we got to finger-paint bears. Some of us had never finger-painted before.  We did a parachute activity where we sent some teddy bears flying into the air.

It is going to be a great year in preschool!
